Olympian Carlos Yulo and his younger brother, Eldrew, have secured spots in the final apparatus of the men’s artistic gymnastics event in the 20th Asian Games.

Carlos Yulo, scoring 14.600 points after a routine with a difficulty of 5.7 and execution of 8.900, came out on top at the floor exercise qualifications.

Likewise, Eldrew Yulo made it to the floor exercise final in fourth place, with a score of 13.966 points.

With a score of 14.266 points and ranking sixth, Carlos also advanced to the parallel bars final. In addition, despite committing multiple errors in vault, he clinched a spot at the finals.

“Sobrang challenging today. Hindi ito ‘yung in-expect ko na preparation ko. Hindi siya lumabas talaga today. Although ‘yung sa pommel horse okay pa naman ako. ‘Yung sa vault hindi ko… siya matanggap kanina,” Carlos said, speaking to the Philippine Sports Media Pool at the Nagoya City General Stadium in Japan.

The Olympic double-medalist acknowledged his mistakes during his first vault attempt, in which he fell, as well as his high bar routine, although he was grateful he had not suffered any major injury.

While dissatisfied with his performance, Carlos remained thankful for the opportunity to represent the Philippines in the international sporting event.

He finished 10th in the individual all-around rankings with 75.465 points.

Meanwhile, Eldrew expressed pride for having landed a spot in the floor exercise final and gratitude for their continued safety.

“Nafe-feel ko po is grateful dahil lahat kami is safe and of course super proud din ako sa nangyari kanina. And dahil well may mga bagay din ako na hindi nagawa tulad ng pommel, sa rings, and of course sa p-bar. But I keep telling myself na change mood to change mood every time na nagcha-change kami ng apparatus to feel the other energy,” the younger Yulo told POC Media.

Eldrew finished seventh in the all-around rankings with 77.264 points.
