Gymnastics standout Carlos Yulo and rising tennis star Alex Eala will be recognized as the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Male and Female Athletes of the Year at the PSA Annual Awards Night on February 16 at Diamond Hotel Manila.
The dual honor marks the first time in 22 years that co-Athletes of the Year have been named, the last being Manny Pacquiao and Jennifer Rosales in 2004.
Yulo Continues Historic Golden Run
Yulo, 25, wins the award for the second consecutive year following a remarkable 2025 season. After his double-gold triumph at the Paris Olympics.
He continued to dominate in Asia and on the world stage, capturing his fourth consecutive floor exercise gold at the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in South Korea, along with three bronze medals.
At the World Championships in Indonesia, he added a vault gold and a floor exercise bronze to his growing list of international accolades.
PH Tennis’ Breakthrough Star
Eala, 20, earns her first PSA Athlete of the Year recognition after a breakout year that saw her rise into the WTA Top 50.
She made headlines with a semifinal run at the Miami Open, defeating top-ranked players including Madison Keys and Iga Swiatek, secured her first WTA singles title in Guadalajara, and made history at Wimbledon and the US Open.
She capped off the season with a gold medal in women’s singles at the Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok, ending a 26-year Philippine tennis gold drought.
Eala recently received the Evonne Goolagong Cawley Trophy, presented by Elizabeth Peers, following her 6-3, 6-4 victory over Olympic silver medalist Donna Vekic at the Kooyong Classic in Melbourne.
The Pinay tennis sensation is also set to make her Australian Open main draw debut against Alycia Parks.
The PSA Awards, organized with San Miguel Corp., celebrate the country’s finest athletes and their international achievements, highlighting a year of historic milestones for Philippine sports.
