A young eagle was safely rescued by a family in Purok Bubon, Loakan Proper, Baguio City on October 3 and turned over to authorities for assessment, care and eventual rehabilitation.

According to the Baguio City Public Information Office, Leticia Amoguis said her husband, Ed, found the bird at around 10 a.m. in the garden of a house they were renting.

Recognizing the eagle as a protected endemic wildlife species, the family immediately contacted Baguio 911 and, upon advice, coordinated with Baguio City Police Station 4.

BCPO personnel proceeded to the residence and took custody of the displaced bird for proper turnover to the concerned authorities.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong commended the Amoguis family, Baguio 911 and the BCPO for their prompt action in ensuring the safety of the wildlife.

Authorities reminded the public not to handle, keep or attempt to care for wild animals on their own, and to immediately report injured, stranded or displaced wildlife to the proper authorities.
