The woman whose body was discovered inside a refrigerator at an apartment in Barangay San Jose, Rodriguez, Rizal, has been positively identified by her family, while police are looking into money as a possible motive behind the killing.
Philippine National Police spokesperson Police Colonel Allen Rae Co said the victim’s father went to authorities and presented identification cards belonging to his daughter, allowing the family to confirm her identity.
Police are also considering the possibility that the victim was killed because of money. According to Co, relatives said the woman was carrying a substantial amount of cash before her death.
The victim’s boyfriend has been identified as a person of interest in the case. Police are looking into his possible involvement after he was reportedly the last person seen with the victim. He also allegedly has an existing warrant of arrest for serious illegal detention.
The development follows the discovery of the woman’s body inside a refrigerator at an apartment in Barangay San Jose on September 16. Rodriguez Municipal Police Station chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Arwyn Gaffud earlier said forensic examination showed that the victim had suffered a broken neck and had a mark around her neck.
“Wala naman pong mga senyales na na-chop siya dahil base sa nakuhang forensic investigation, leeg na nabali na siya,” Gaffud said in an interview with DZRH’s Breaktime.
Authorities had earlier said the victim was reportedly last seen with a man who was believed to be her partner. The apartment owner later sought police assistance after noticing a foul smell coming from the unit. The woman’s body was subsequently found inside the refrigerator.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing, including the possible financial motive and the involvement of the identified person of interest.
Authorities have yet to establish the final motive and determine whether additional individuals were involved.
