A 34-year-old woman died nearly three hours after being bitten by a cobra on New Year’s Day while climbing out of a river in Kulaman Valley, Arakan, Cotabato, where she and her companions had gone for a swim.
Municipal officials and the Arakan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office identified the victim as Jenisa Clambog Mandi, a resident of Barangay Binoongan, Kitaotao, Bukidnon, who was visiting relatives in Arakan to celebrate the New Year.
Her companions managed to kill the cobra, which authorities said measured about seven feet long.
Local officials said they will provide assistance in transporting Mandi’s remains back to her family in Kitaotao, Bukidnon, located nearly 200 kilometers from the town center of Arakan.
