Financial forensic analyst Alexander “Alex” Cabrera acknowledged Monday that he did not make a written inquiry with Jollibee Foods Corp. to verify the actual franchise costs of five Jollibee branches in Davao City linked to Duterte’s GenCorp Industries Inc.
During the cross-examination by defense counsel Kristine Ferrer on Day 38 of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, Cabrera said he relied on information from Jollibee’s website, which listed an initial franchise cost of ₱35 million.
Ferrer questioned Cabrera’s basis for using the amount to calculate GenCorp’s capital contributions in his report.
Cabrera confirmed that he used the ₱35 million figure as the basis for calculating the company’s capital contributions for each of the four years covered by his analysis.
Ferrer also asked Cabrera to confirm the paid-up capital figures reflected in his report, which combined the attributed 20% ownership in GenCorp, the paid-up capital of Duterte’s spouse in Cale88 and the calculated capital contributions based on Jollibee’s franchise cost.
The figures were ₱35.36 million in 2022, ₱27.11 million in 2023, ₱37.86 million in 2024 and ₱39.32 million in 2025, which Cabrera confirmed.
The analyst also acknowledged that he did not use any documents in the possession of Duterte or her spouse in preparing his report.
He further confirmed that he had not obtained documents from the vice president or her spouse concerning GenCorp, examined the company’s franchise agreements, or directly asked Jollibee to verify the actual franchise costs of the five Davao branches.
The admissions came as the defense examined the basis and methodology of Cabrera’s findings concerning the alleged unexplained wealth linked to Duterte.
