Even after one of his poles broke, Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena stilled earned a podium finish in the Oslo Bislett Games on Thursday, May 30, in Norway.

Obiena shared the silver medal with Emmanouil Karalis of Greece after both of them cleared 5.72 meters in the event ruled by American pole-vaulter KC Footlight, who registered 5.82 meters.

The 28-year old Filipino pole-vaulter thanked Footlight and Dutch pole vaulter Menno Vloon for lending him poles that allowed him to finish the tournament.

"Greatly appreciate it (gentlemen)," Obiena said on Friday, May 30, in a Facebook post.

The silver medal finish of Obiena came after he placed seventh in the Ostrava Golden Spike in Czech Republic, and one of his poles broke in the middle of the tournament.
