Sheila Guevara-Suntay, wife of Quezon City 4th District Representative Bong Suntay, has issued a public statement distancing herself and her children from the controversial analogy made by the lawmaker that referenced actress Anne Curtis during a recent congressional hearing.

In the statement circulating online, Guevara-Suntay said she and her children “do not agree with and do not condone” the remarks attributed to the Quezon City representative. She also refuted claims that she laughed during the incident and therefore supported the statement, saying the narrative being spread was false.

“I want to be unequivocally clear… the news circulating that I laughed and therefore approved of what was said is false,” she said, adding that she would not allow such claims to remain unchallenged.

She also issued a direct apology to Curtis and her family, saying she was “deeply sorry” and emphasizing that no woman should be spoken about in that manner. The statement further underscored her belief that all women, regardless of their background, deserve dignity and respect.

The controversy stemmed from remarks made by Suntay during a hearing of the House Committee on Justice, which drew criticism from lawmakers and women’s rights advocates who described the analogy involving the actress as sexist and inappropriate. The incident prompted calls for accountability and discussions on gender sensitivity in public discourse.

In her statement, Guevara-Suntay also appealed to the public and the media to leave her children out of the issue, stressing that they are private individuals who should not be subjected to harassment over a matter they had no part in.

The controversy continues to spark debate over standards of conduct in legislative proceedings and the treatment of women in political discussions.
