In Barangay Fortune, Marikina City, a special resting place for departed pets continues to bring comfort to grieving fur parents.
The Pet Memorial Garden, established in 2020 under then–Barangay Captain Rizalina Teope, was created to provide a dignified and organized burial site for pets that have passed away.
The memorial garden was initially used for animals rescued by the barangay that perished during calamities that struck the city. It was later opened to the public to give pet owners a proper place to lay their beloved companions to rest.
Since its opening, the memorial garden has served more than 7,000 pet owners who have chosen to lay their beloved companions to rest in the area.
The site is open not only to residents of Barangay Fortune but also to those from neighboring cities. A minimal fee of ₱300 is charged for residents, and ₱500 for non-residents.
Barangay officials said the initiative reflects their commitment to compassion, not just for people, but also for animals that many consider part of their families.
“Kailangan po natin ipreserve ang kanilang [mga namayapang alaga] fun and loving memories sa pagbibigay po ng disenteng libingan kapag sila ay nawala na,” Former Barangay Captain Rizalina Teope said.
Officials expressed hope that the Pet Memorial Garden will inspire other local governments to establish similar spaces, allowing pet owners across the country to bid farewell to their furry friends without having to travel far or spend large amounts of money to honor their pets’ lives.
