Elreen Ando delivered a gutsy performance to bring home the first gold in the women’s 63kg weightlifting at Thailand's Chonburi Sports School.

The 27-year-old, who has earned three Asian Championships silver medals, started strong in the snatch before stumbling at her heaviest attempt.

She faced another setback in the clean and jerk but bounced back, successfully lifting 127kg to secure the top spot.

Ando’s victory marked the first gold medal for the Philippines on the fifth day of the Southeast Asian Games, boosting the country’s medal tally.
