Atty. Mark Kristopher Tolentino and Atty. Rolex Suplico filed a Petition for Indirect Contempt against Representative Percy Cendaña of the Akbayan Party-list and Professor Richard Heydarian before the Honorable Supreme Court on Wednesday, July 30.

The petition is in response to recent public statements by the respondents, which the petitioners claim undermine the integrity of the Supreme Court.

Since the Supreme Court declared the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte unconstitutional, numerous public and official statements have surfaced over the past few days.

The petitioners have described these remarks as “malicious” and “contemptuous,” specifically calling out Representative Percy Cendaña and Professor Richard Heydarian for branding the Supreme Court as the “Supreme Coddler” of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Meanwhile, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio is expected to file a separate Petition for Indirect Contempt against Presidential Adviser for Poverty Alleviation, Secretary Larry Gadon, over his derogatory remark referring to the Supreme Court as “Tuta ng mga Duterte.” The statement has drawn condemnation for similarly disrespecting the judiciary.

In a report by Boy Gonzales, Atty. Topicio also express his dismay to his 'friend' Gadon.

"Kaibigan ko 'yan actually, kaya lang medyo lumabis na. We are friends but I'm officer of the court first." he reiterated.

In support of the judiciary and in defense of the rule of law, a peaceful rally was held at Liwasang Bonifacio at 9:00 AM today. Various civic organizations, legal professionals, and advocacy groups—including Citizen Crime Watch, Duterte Youth, Concerned Lawyers for Justice, and the Inday Sara Confederation—joined the gathering. After the rally, the petitioners and their supporters proceeded to the Supreme Court to formally file their petitions.

Both Atty. Tolentino and Atty. Suplico emphasized that their actions are not politically motivated but are necessary responses to verbal attacks that, they argue, undermine the foundation of the judicial system.

“We trust that the Honorable Supreme Court will handle these matters with the dignity and impartiality they deserve,” Tolentino cited in his online statement.
