Several personnel from the Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG) arrived at the Senate on Tuesday morning as the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte entered its second day, with her attendance still uncertain.
The security detail remained outside the Senate complex for nearly an hour before they were allowed to enter the premises.
Retired Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms (OSAA) chief PMGen. Alfred Corpus said the vice president has a designated holding area inside the Senate.
“The Vice-President has her own holding room and no advise yet kung darating siya ngayon,” Corpus said.
The development came after VPSPG personnel were seen within the Senate premises earlier in the day.
There was no confirmation from Duterte’s camp on whether she would personally appear during the proceedings.
VPSPG officials declined to answer questions from reporters covering the development.
Meanwhile, the situation around the Senate remained calm, based on monitoring by the National Capital Region Police Office, which has maintained a security presence in the area.
