The defense team of Vice President Sara Duterte has issued an official statement in response to the fourth impeachment complaint recently filed against her. Atty. Michael Poa, spokesperson for the VP’s legal team, emphasized that the successive filing of complaints does not automatically make the allegations true.
In their statement, the defense team said, “We have been informed of the filing of a fourth impeachment complaint against the Vice President. The successive filing of complaints does not, by mere repetition, transform allegations into truth.”
The team further assured the public that they will address all allegations in full and at the appropriate time, following constitutional procedures and applicable House rules. This response follows the filing by Atty. Nathaniel Cabrera, endorsed by Manila Representative Bienvenido Abante, which cites alleged culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, malversation of public funds, and other high crimes as grounds for impeachment.
The defense team’s statement signals that they are prepared to contest the complaint through legal channels while stressing that the filing itself does not imply guilt. The House of Representatives is expected to include the impeachment complaints in its Order of Business, after which they may be referred to the House Committee on Justice for evaluation.
