Vice President Sara Duterte on Friday denied having any intention of overthrowing the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., stressing that she remains committed to upholding and defending the Constitution.

Speaking to reporters in Davao City after Independence Day activities, Duterte addressed allegations and alleged reports suggesting that some groups were calling on her to lead efforts against the current administration.

“Wala sa aking mga kamay ang pagsasagawa ng extra-constitutional means to overthrow the current administration. At hindi ko din gusto ‘yun,” Duterte said when asked about alleged calls for her to lead a revolt.

“Hindi ko gusto agawin ‘yung posisyon ni Bongbong Marcos,” she said.

The Vice President explained that her criticisms of the administration stem from her constitutional duties as the country's second-highest elected official.

“Ako, I am the constitutional successor, I am the next in line ayon sa ating constitution. At meron akong sinumpaan noong ako ay nag-assume ng office of the Vice President at nakalagay doon that I will preserve and defend the Constitution,” Duterte said.

“Gusto ko makita ng taong bayan hanggang sa dulo kung gaano ka walanghiya si BBM.”

Asked about alleged calls from retired military officers for her to lead an uprising, Duterte dismissed the idea and instead said she wanted the public to fully see and assess the actions of the current administration.

Duterte also delivered a message to Filipinos, members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and the Philippine National Police (PNP) during the country's celebration of Independence Day.

“Ang mensahe ko sa lahat ng ating mga kababayan… Ang kalayaan natin at ang soberanya natin, hindi siya nawawala sa mga foreign invaders lamang. Hindi siya sa pagsakop lamang ng mga foreign invaders,” she said.

She argued that freedom can also be undermined by corruption among government officials, including those occupying the highest positions in government.

“Nawawala din siya kapag ‘yung mga matataas na opisyal ng ating pamahalaan. Kasama na ang Pangulo ay mala-sindikato sa pagnanakaw ng pera ng bayan,” Duterte said.

She added that every peso stolen from public coffers represents a loss of dignity for the Filipino people.
