Vice President Sara Duterte expressed outrage and sorrow following the killing of Oscar “Kap Dodong” Bucol Jr., Barangay Captain of Tres de Mayo in Digos City.
In a statement released on Thursday, VP Duterte said Bucol was silenced solely for exercising his right to speak out against corruption and political wrongdoing.
Bucol was reportedly shot while livestreaming a discussion about corruption issues affecting his community.
She also extended her condolences to the family, colleagues, and community affected by the tragedy.
"Hindi tayo yuyuko kailanman," she added.
Duterte called on authorities to ensure that Filipinos can voice their concerns and engage in civic matters without intimidation, emphasizing the need to safeguard free expression.
Earlier, Duterte offered a P1 million reward for information leading to the capture of the gunman responsible for Bucol’s death.
