Vice President Sara Duterte has strongly condemned the ambush carried out by a terrorist group in Munai, Lanao del Norte, which killed four members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Friday, January 23, 2026. The incident has raised serious concerns about the state of peace and security in the region.
In her official statement released on January 25, Duterte described the attack as “a clear challenge to the state of peace and security of our country” and urged responsible government agencies to ensure justice is served for the fallen soldiers.
She emphasized that authorities must remain vigilant in protecting the public from threats posed by criminals, terrorists, and other groups seeking to intimidate citizens.
The vice president called on all sectors to work together to prevent criminal elements from gaining control over communities. “Let us work together and not allow criminals to rule our communities,” she said, highlighting the importance of peace and order as the foundation of national freedom and development.
Duterte also extended her condolences to the families of the slain soldiers and to the entire AFP, honoring their courage and sacrifice in serving the nation. She stressed that their heroism will never be forgotten and should inspire continued commitment to safeguarding the country.
She concluded by urging Filipinos to remain united and resilient against terrorism, reinforcing the message that cooperation and solidarity are essential in ensuring the safety and security of communities nationwide.
