Vice President Sara Duterte’s defense team said on Monday that it will comply and file the appropriate response after the Senate officially convened as an impeachment court and ordered her to answer the allegations and appear before the tribunal.

In a statement, Duterte’s legal team acknowledged the action of the Senate, sitting as an impeachment court, noting that “summons will be issued in due course.“

“We note that the Senate has convened as an Impeachment Court and that summons will be issued in due course. We will comply and file the appropriate response in accordance with the Constitution and applicable rules,” it said.

“At this stage, and out of respect for the process, we find it prudent to refrain from further comment,” the statement added.

The Senate court issued a summons ordering Vice President Duterte to file her answer to the Articles of Impeachment within a non-extendible period of 10 days and to appear before the tribunal upon notice.

Once she submits her answer, the prosecution will be given five days to file a reply.

The impeachment complaint against Duterte includes allegations of culpable violation of the 1987 Constitution, graft and corruption, and betrayal of public trust.
