The camp of Vice President Sara Duterte has asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to move a scheduled conference concerning allegations made by Rodulfo M. Gracioso Jr. to Oct. 8.
Duterte’s camp confirmed it had received the NBI’s invitation to attend a conference related to Gracioso’s allegations that he allegedly delivered large amounts of money to the Duterte family.
In a letter dated Sept. 30 addressed to NBI Director Melvin Matibag, Duterte’s lawyer Paul Lawrence S. Lim said the vice president’s camp could not provide a meaningful response because the copy of Gracioso’s sworn statement mentioned in the NBI letter was not attached.
“However, while your letter mentions an attached copy of Mr. Gracioso's Sinumpaang Salaysay, none was attached thereto. Consequently, our client cannot provide any meaningful reply to your request at this time,” Lim said.
The camp asked the NBI to provide a clear and faithful copy of Gracioso’s sworn statement, all attachments and any supporting evidence he may have submitted.
The documents, the lawyers said, would allow Duterte and her counsel to prepare a response and take appropriate action.
The NBI had scheduled the conference for Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. Duterte’s camp said neither the vice president nor her counsel could attend on the appointed date and requested that it be moved to Oct. 8 to allow them sufficient time to examine the documents.
The letter was signed by lawyers Clifford E. Chua, Paul Lawrence S. Lim and Kimberly R. Resurreccion, with Duterte’s conformity.
To recall, dismissed police officer Rodulfo Gracioso Jr. has alleged that members of the Duterte family received billions of pesos in cash deliveries arranged by former House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco.
