Vice President Sara Duterte has formally responded to the impeachment complaints filed against her by submitting a “Consolidated Answer Ad Cautelam” to the House Committee on Justice on Monday.
According to Terry Ridon, Bicol Saro Party-list representative and member of the House justice panel, the vice president’s legal team filed the document at around 4:30 p.m., within the 10-day period given by the committee for Duterte to respond to its notice.
An “Answer Ad Cautelam” is a legal response submitted as a precautionary measure, allowing the respondent to answer the allegations while not recognizing or reserving objections to the jurisdiction of the investigating body.
The submission comes after the House justice panel earlier declared two impeachment complaints against Duterte sufficient in form and substance, prompting the issuance of a formal notice requiring her response.
Prior to filing the consolidated answer, Duterte’s camp also submitted an Entry of Appearance identifying the lawyers who will represent her in the impeachment proceedings before the House panel.
