Vice President Sara Duterte has announced a P1 million reward for information leading to the capture of the gunman who killed Barangay Captain Dodong Bucol while he was livestreaming on Facebook Tuesday afternoon.
Bucol, the Tres de Mayo barangay captain and provincial chairman of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP), was attending to a resident reporting a lost ID during his online broadcast when he was shot multiple times.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after. The attack has shocked residents and drawn widespread condemnation.
Days before his death, Bucol had publicly criticized Digos City officials over alleged anomalies in the EcoPark construction, accusing them of overpricing and promising to expose wrongdoing on his Facebook page, which has 253,000 followers.
Atty. Israelito Torreon, PDP’s legal counsel in Davao del Sur, condemned the killing and called for a swift investigation. Authorities are reviewing the livestream footage and other evidence to identify the perpetrator.
