Vice President Sara Duterte on Thursday criticized the release of a video clip from her speech in The Hague, Netherlands, alleging that a portion of her remarks was deliberately edited and presented in a misleading manner.

In a statement dated July 30, 2026, Duterte called on the editorial and social media departments of Abante to address the publication of a video clip from her speech delivered outside the International Criminal Court (ICC) detention facility on July 29.

The Vice President said the material, accompanied by the caption “I CAN HIRE A GUNMAN FOR ₱5,000,” isolated a single statement from her speech without including the explanation that followed.

“The circulating post is a clear example of a statement being taken out of context and presented in a misleading manner to generate public outrage and online engagement at the expense of accuracy and responsible journalism,” Duterte said.

Duterte argued that the edited clip created an inaccurate impression of her remarks and did not reflect the full substance and intent of her speech.

“By isolating a single sentence from my remarks without presenting the explanation that immediately followed, the published headline creates a false and misleading impression that is inconsistent with the substance, intent, and context of my speech,” she said.

She added that public discussions should be guided by truth and integrity rather than sensationalism.

“Public discourse is strengthened not by sensationalism, but by integrity, fairness, and respect for the truth,” she said.

The statement came after the circulation of the video clip from Duterte’s remarks in The Hague, where she discussed issues involving gun violence and used a hypothetical example during her speech.
