Vice President Sara Duterte on Tuesday accused the government of attempting to shift its narrative against her by reframing allegations involving her as a national security issue, questioning the evidence supporting the accusations.
In a statement dated October 20, Duterte linked the developments to what she described as the House of Representatives prosecution team's failure to establish a convincing case for an impeachable offense.
“Now, we are witnessing an apparent shift in the government’s narrative in taking me down, attempting to reframe the matter as a national security issue,” she said.
Duterte cited allegations involving a business venture supposedly linked to Chinese funding and a drug bust in Laos allegedly connected to a Mindanao-Davao conspiracy, questioning the basis for linking these matters.
“But what evidence does the government have to substantiate these sweeping accusations? None that has been convincingly presented,” she said.
She also questioned the authenticity of a purported travel authority for Laos, alleging that the document appeared to have been fabricated to support claims she said lacked credible evidence.
Duterte added that the Office of the President had not confirmed the document on September 29, 2026.
The vice president ended her statement by urging the government to prioritize public concerns over political disputes.
“Government should start working and stop politicking. The people are impoverished, hungry and angry,” she said.
