In a world faced with poverty, violence, and inequality, social workers stand as quiet pillars of strength—guiding individuals, families, and communities toward hope and healing.
Ryan Cervantes, a Licensed Registered Social Worker, shared in an exclusive interview on DZRH Television's Point of View that, as social workers, they help get to the root cause of their clients' problems.
“We uplift human well-being. We address their problems. Bukod sa problema, mas ina-assess namin yung ugat ng problem nila, binibigyan namin sila ng intervention,” he said, underscoring the depth and purpose of his work.
For Cervantes, social work is more than a profession—it is a mission shaped by both experience and empathy. “We are the voice of the voiceless,” he said, as he continues to advocate for vulnerable sectors, ensuring that those often unheard are given the support and dignity they deserve.
His commitment goes beyond providing immediate aid, as he emphasized the importance of long-term solutions.
“We’re fighting for systemic change, kasi naniniwala kami na hangga’t may mahirap, hangga’t may mga nasasaktan, hangga’t may mga naaabuso, there’s still a problem with the system,” Cervantes explained, reflecting his drive to address not just the symptoms, but the roots of social issues.
This passion is deeply personal for Cervantes. Growing up in a dysfunctional household, he witnessed firsthand how violence can begin within the home.
“Ang violence… nagsisimula talaga siya sa bahay,” he shared, a realization that pushed him to pursue a path where he could help others avoid the same pain he once experienced.
Despite the emotional weight of his work, Cervantes remains steadfast in his calling—to serve, to empower, and to create change. As he puts it, “kung walang social worker… the puzzle is incomplete,” a powerful reminder that behind every step toward a better society are individuals like him, quietly making a difference every day.
