The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced that the Visayas grid will be placed under yellow alert on Wednesday, August 5.

In an advisory, NGCP said the yellow alert will be in effect from 3:00 pm to 9:00 p.m.

The Visayas grid’s available capacity stood at 2,431 megawatts (MW), while peak demand reached 2,373 MW.

Five power plants are currently on forced outage, contributing to a total of 1,081.5 MW of unavailable capacity. The affected plants include those that have been offline since August 2026, July, June, May, March, and previous years.

Meanwhile, 13 power plants are operating on derated capacities, further limiting the available power supply in the grid.

The NGCP attributed the yellow alert declaration to the unavailability of several large coal-fired power plants in the Visayas, including TVI 1, TVI 2, KSPC 1, CEDC 1, and TPC Coal.

“A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement,” the NGCP said.

The Visayas grid experienced repeated yellow alert declarations for most of May and June, and continued to face power supply issues until mid-July.
