The Visayas Grid will be placed under a total of five hours of red alert on Wednesday, September 2, as power reserves remain thin, according to the Department of Energy (DOE).

The red alert will be in effect from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The grid will also be placed under yellow alert from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., and 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Visayas Grid has an available capacity of 2,205 megawatts (MW) against a peak demand of 2,501 MW, indicating a tight power supply situation.

Four power plants in the Visayas have been on forced outage since September, while three have been out since 2025, two since 2024 and 2023, and one since 2021.

Meanwhile, 16 power plants are operating at limited capacity in the region.

The Mindanao Grid will also be placed under six hours of yellow alert.

The yellow alert will be in effect from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Mindanao has an available capacity of 2,630 MW against a peak demand of 2,487 MW, leaving only a narrow reserve margin.

Two power plants in Mindanao have been on forced outage since September, while one has been on forced outage since 2025 and another since 2024.

Seven power plants are also operating at limited capacity in the Mindanao Grid.

A yellow alert means the grid's contingency reserve is insufficient to cover the capacity of the largest power generating unit, while a red alert indicates that the available supply is insufficient to meet demand plus the required reserve.
