The Visayas Grid will be placed under red alert from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
NGCP said the grid will also be under yellow alert from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The Visayas Grid has an available capacity of 2,352 megawatts (MW) against a peak demand of 2,492 MW.
According to the update, 12 power plants are on forced outage, while 15 others are operating at reduced or derated capacities, resulting in a total of 962.9 MW of unavailable capacity.
The forced outages include three plants that have been unavailable since August 2026, one since July, two since June, seven since May, three since 2025, two since 2024, two since 2023, and one since 2021.
The power situation was attributed partly to the unavailability of the Visayas Grid's large coal-fired power plants TVI 1, TVI 2, and PEDC 3, as well as limited power imports from the Mindanao Grid.
A red alert is issued when available power supply is insufficient to meet consumer demand and the transmission grid's regulating requirement.
Meanwhile, a yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid's contingency requirement.
