The Visayas Grid will be placed under Yellow Alert from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

In its advisory issued Wednesday, NGCP said the Visayas Grid has an available capacity of 2,607 megawatts (MW) against a peak demand of 2,418 MW during the period.

NGCP said the Yellow Alert declaration was due in part to the unavailability of three large coal-fired power plants in the Visayas — TVI 1, PEDC 3, and KSPC 2.

A total of 12 power plants are on forced outage, while 16 plants are operating at derated capacities, resulting in a combined 886.5 MW of unavailable capacity in the grid.

NGCP noted that the outages include power plants that have been unavailable since August, June, May, and previous years.

A Yellow Alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid's contingency requirement.

This is the latest Yellow Alert declaration for the Visayas Grid announced by NGCP.
