The Visayas grid will be placed under red and yellow alerts on Saturday, September 5, due to the unavailability of the region’s large coal plants TVI 1 and PDEC 3, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced.

As of 8:00 AM, the NGCP said that the Visayas grid will be placed under the following status:

Red Alert

5:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Yellow Alert

8:00 PM - 10:00 PM

As of writing, the available capacity is at 2,255 MW against the peak demand of 2,432 MW.

“8 plants are on forced outage on September, 6 plants are on forced outage since August 2026, 1 plant since July, 2 plants since June, 7 plants since May, 3 plants since 2025, 2 plants since 2024, 2 plants since 2023, and 1 plant since 2021, while 15 plants are running on derated capacities, for a total of 797.8MW unavailable to the grid,” the NGCP stated.

The power supply is also affected by limited or unavailable power import from Mindanao.

Mindanao grid on yellow alert

Meanwhile, the Mindanao grid will also be placed on yellow alert on Saturday, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

The NGCP reported an available capacity of 2,726 MW against a peak demand of 2,644 MW.

“7 plants are on forced outage on September 2026, 10 plants since August, 4 plants since July, 1 plant since June, 2 plants since January, 1 plant since 2025, and 1 plant since 2024, while 7 plants are running on derated capacities, for a total of 617.7MW unavailable to the grid,” the NGCP said.
