The Visayas grid will again be placed under yellow alert on Saturday, June 6, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

In an advisory, NGCP said the yellow alert would last for two hours, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The grid operator reported that available capacity in the Visayas stood at 2,640 megawatts (MW), while demand reached 2,493 MW, leaving a tight operating margin.

NGCP also disclosed that multiple power plants are currently unavailable or operating below capacity. These include five plants on forced outage as of June 2026, eight plants since May 2026, one plant since March 2026, three plants since 2025, two plants since 2024, two plants since 2023, and one plant since 2021.

In addition, 11 plants are running on derated capacities, resulting in a total of 897.6 MW unavailable to the grid.

Among the key contributing factors to the yellow alert were the unavailability of major coal-fired power plants TVI Unit 1, TVI Unit 2, and PEDC Unit 3, as well as the increase in demand forecast.

“A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement,” NGCP said in its advisory.
