The Visayas grid will be placed under Yellow Alert from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 31, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

In an advisory, the NGCP said the Visayas grid had an available capacity of 2,564 megawatts (MW) against a projected peak demand of 2,321 MW.

The grid operator said a total of 969 MW of capacity was unavailable to the Visayas grid, with five plants on forced outage in July and 14 other plants operating at reduced capacities.

"5 plants are on forced outage on July 2026, 3 plants since June, 7 plants since May, 1 plant since March, 3 plants since 2025, 2 plants since 2024, 2 plants since 2023, and 1 plant since 2021, while 14 plants are running on derated capacities, for a total of 969MW unavailable to the grid," the NGCP said.

The grid’s Yellow Alert was attributed to the unavailability of major coal-fired power plants, including TVI Units 1 and 2 and CEDC Unit 1.

In an advisory, the NGCP said Unit 1 of Kepco SPC Power Corp. (KSPC) in Cebu has been on emergency shutdown since Thursday “due to boiler tube leak.”

"A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement," it added.
