The Visayas Grid will be placed under yellow alert anew on Tuesday, June 9, due to the continued unavailability of major power plants in the Visayas and high power demand, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

In an advisory, NGCP said the Yellow Alert will be in effect for three hours, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The grid's available capacity is projected at 2,644 megawatts (MW), while peak demand is expected to reach 2,457 MW during the alert period.

NGCP reported that several power plants remain unavailable, further reducing the grid's supply. Six power plants have been on forced outage since June 2026, eight since May 2026, one since March 2026, three since 2025, two since 2024, two since 2023, and one since 2021.

In addition, 12 power plants are operating at derated capacities.

The combined outages and derated operations have resulted in a total of 890.3 MW being unavailable to the Visayas Grid.

According to NGCP, the declaration of a yellow alert was primarily caused by the unavailability of major coal-fired power plants in the Visayas, including TVI Units 1 and 2 and PEDC Unit 3, as well as the forecast of high electricity demand.

“A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement,” NGCP said.
