The Visayas Grid will be placed under a five-hour yellow alert on Tuesday, June 16, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
In an advisory, NGCP said the yellow alert will be in effect from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The grid is projected to have an available capacity of 2,587 megawatts (MW) against a peak demand forecast of 2,384 MW during the period.
The grid operator reported that multiple generating units are currently offline or operating at reduced capacity, significantly affecting supply conditions in the Visayas.
"7 plants are on forced outage on June 2026, 8 plants are on forced outage since May 2026, 1 plant since March 2026, 3 plants since 2025, 2 plants since 2024, 2 plants since 2023, and 1 plant since 2021, while 12 plants are running on derated capacities," the grid operator said.
In total, about 947.8 MW is unavailable to the grid.
NGCP identified the unavailability of several major coal plants—including TVI Unit 1, TVI Unit 2, PEDC Unit 3, and KSPC Unit 1—as a key factor contributing to the alert status, along with the high demand forecast for the evening peak period.
“A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement,” NGCP said in its advisory.
