The Visayas Grid will again be placed under a yellow alert on Saturday, June 13, due to high electricity demand and the continued unavailability of several major power plants, according to National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

In an advisory, the NGCP said the yellow alert will be in effect from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The grid's available capacity was recorded at 2,669 megawatts (MW), while peak demand is forecast to reach 2,393 MW during the alert period.

"3 plants are on forced outage on June 2026, 8 plants are on forced outage since May 2026, 1 plant since March 2026, 3 plants since 2025, 2 plants since 2024, 2 plants since 2023, and 1 plant since 2021," the grid operator said.

Meanwhile, nine power plants are operating at derated capacities.

The outages and reduced generating capacity have resulted in a total of 842 MW being unavailable to the Visayas Grid.

According to NGCP, the yellow alert was triggered by the unavailability of major coal-fired power plants, including TVI Units 1 and 2 and PEDC Unit 3, as well as the forecast for high electricity demand.

"A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement," NGCP said.
