    6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Visayas Grid had an available capacity of 2,362 megawatts (MW) against a peak demand of 2,548 MW, leaving a supply deficit of 186 MW.

The NGCP cited the following factors that contributed to the declaration of red and yellow alerts:

  1. Unavailability of Visayas’ large coal plants TVI 1, TVI 2, and KSPC 1.
  2. Limited power imports from Mindanao due to the planned outages of GNPK 4 and TSI 2

The grid operator reported that 10 power plants were on forced outage in October, while other units had been unavailable since previous months and years. Another 18 plants were operating at reduced capacities, resulting in a total of 804.3 MW of unavailable power capacity.

The NGCP said a red alert is issued when the available power supply is insufficient to meet consumer demand and the transmission grid’s regulating requirements.

Meanwhile, a yellow alert is declared when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the grid’s contingency requirements.
