Senator-judge Joel Villanueva on Thursday questioned Vice President Sara Duterte’s involvement in the purchase of a property registered in the name of her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, during the 32nd day of her impeachment trial.
During the hearing on Article II, which covers alleged unexplained wealth, Land Registration Authority (LRA) representative Kathy Florence Baldonado testified that Duterte did not sign the deed of sale, while Carpio signed the document as the buyer.
Baldonado said the deed of sale was signed by the vendor and Carpio as the vendee.
“Ang deed of sale ay pinirmahan ng vendor… at Atty. Manases Carpio bilang vendee. Hindi pumirma ang kanyang asawa (Vice President Sara Duterte),” Baldonado said.
Villanueva said the impeachment court should also examine bank records to determine whether the transactions fall under Article II on unexplained wealth.
“Mas magandang makita talaga yung bank records, company bank records at doon makikita kung talagang ito’y nag-fafall sa Article 2 (Unexplained Wealth),” Villanueva said.
