UPDATED: Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto attended the House Committee on Infrastructure’s hearing into the alleged anomalies in flood control projects on Tuesday, September 9.

The committee, chaired by Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon, is currently investigating alleged irregularities surrounding the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) flood control projects.

According to the source of RH Milky Rigonan, Sotto’s possible attendance is being described as a “surprise appearance,” as the panel continues to look into the involvement of several lawmakers, contractors, and officials in the controversy.

During the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing on Monday, September 8, Pasig City Rep. Roman Romulo’s name appeared in a list of 18 legislators and several DPWH officials allegedly linked to contractors couple Sarah and Curlee Discaya.

However, Romulo, immediately denied any association with the couple, dismissing the allegation as "politically motivated."

Romulo camp note that the issue carries political undertones, recalling that Mayor Sotto previously ran against Sarah in Pasig’s mayoral race.

The House hearing on Tuesday, Septermber 9 is also expected to feature statements from lawmakers mentioned by the Disayas, as they seek to clarify their respective positions.

In the Senate proceedings on Monday, Mayor Sotto cast doubt on the credibility of the Discayas, pointing out alleged inconsistencies in their testimonies.

“The challenge is now how to sift through the half-truths and attempts to mislead us—not only from the spouses Discaya but from everyone involved,” Sotto said in a social media post.

“Obviously, there are congressmen, DPWH officials, and contractors who are guilty. But the Spouses Discaya are clearly angling to become state witnesses so they won’t go to jail. We know they are capable of lying," he added.

The House Committee on Infrastructure is expected to continue its probe into whether flood control projects in Metro Manila were marred by corruption and political influence.
