A local vendor died after being trapped in a landslide near Lake Holon in T’boli, South Cotabato, following a strong earthquake that shook parts of Mindanao, authorities reported.

The victim was identified as Rosa, 47, a married resident of T’boli town, who was reportedly buried when a portion of the mountainside collapsed near the crater lake area of the active volcano, also known as Mount Parker or Mount Maughan, which stands at 1,430 meters above sea level.

According to reports, the incident occurred near the crater lake during the height of the earthquake, when several climbers and visitors in the area also experienced strong tremors but were later guided safely downhill with their families.

Local authorities said recovery efforts were initially delayed after responders found the victim’s body pinned under large boulders, making retrieval difficult.

The remains were eventually brought down from the mountainous area late in the evening and were turned over to the family, where the victim is now lying in state.

Officials continue to assess the impact of the earthquake across Mindanao, with further monitoring of landslide-prone and high-risk areas such as Lake Holon.
