The Southern Police District (SPD) clarified on Monday that the multiple vehicular collisions along Chino Roces Avenue in Taguig and Makati on Sunday evening was an accident and not a robbery, hold-up, or incident of road rage.

According to an investigation, a Toyota Corona slowed to make a left turn in Chino Roces Ave. in Taguig City when a gray Nissan Navara crashed into it at around 7:00 p.m. The impact pushed the Toyota into the opposite lane, colliding with a motorcycle.

The motorcycle rider was injured and immediately given medical treatment and later discharged.

The driver of the Nissan bolted, heading towards Makati City, and was intercepted by authorities at the Chino Roces Extension by Alphaland, Barangay Magallanes after ramming into another vehicle.

Officers from the Makati Central Police Station (CPS) immediately responded to the incident, securing the scene, ensuring the safety of all involved, and preempting further escalation despite the crowd’s agitation.

“Further investigation by Taguig CPS established that the incident stemmed from the vehicular collision, and the parties directly involved in the traffic incident have since reached an amicable settlement,” the SPD’s statement read.

Based on the video captured during the incident, netizens speculated that it involved robbery, hold-up, or road rage. In the video, one individual was supposedly shown brandishing a firearm and another allegedly slashing a vehicle’s tires.

The Makati and Taguig CPSs conducted CCTV backtracking and follow-up investigations, afterwards concluding that the primary incident was merely a vehicular traffic accident. Nevertheless, the other acts caught on camera remain under investigation, the SPD said.

The SPD appealed to the public to refrain from sharing misleading and prematurely conclusive statements regarding the incidents and instead leave law enforcement authorities to establish the full facts through proper investigation.
