It’s another win for the Philippines!

A day after Jessica Sanchez and Kirk Bondad’s triumph, another Filipina has continued the Philippines’ winning streak after being proclaimed the winner of Project Runway Season 21.

Filipina designer Veejay Floresca is not only the first Pinoy to win the fashion reality competition, but also the first openly trans woman.

According to Veejay, she joined the show intending to be the first trans woman to win, adding, “I think that will really inspire my community that you can really reach your dreams by being who you are.”

The Filipina designer turned emotional as host-judge Heidi Klum proclaimed her as this season’s winner.

“This is tears of joy. I’ve seen you, Heidi, since Season 1. I was just a little gay boy in the Philippines watching the show, and I’ve always been wanting to do this,” she said.

“Now, this is my time. So thank you so much. Thank you for being part of my journey,” she added, wiping her tears.

Joining Veejay in the Top 3 were fellow designers Jesus Estrada and Ethan Mundt.

For Project Runway’s Season 21, Veejay defeated 11 other designers and took home a $200,000 cash prize. Apart from this, she is also offered a six-month representation by Agentry PR, a mentorship with the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and a spread for the French worldwide magazine, Elle.

The Filipina designer finally got her win, 17 years after competing in Project Runway Philippines in 2008. At the time, Veejay placed as a runner-up.
