Valenzuela City Mayor Wes Gatchalian clarified that Amanda Alvarez’s solo parent ID application was delayed due to incomplete requirements and not her gender, following allegations of discrimination by the LGBTQIA+ community member.
In a social media post on Friday, October 23, Gatchalian said Alvarez applied for the ID on July 22, 2026, but had not submitted all the necessary documents, including a photo ID and proof of her relationship with the children she had taken in as her own.
He added that Alvarez only obtained a certification from the Solo Parent President on August 18.
Gatchalian said the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) assisted Alvarez in completing the requirements and that her application had already been approved when she decided to withdraw her submitted documents.
“Ang solo parent anuman ang kasarian basta kumpleto ang requirements ay kaagad na naiisyuhan ng ID. Inuulit ko, hindi po isyu ang kasarian,” Gatchalian said.
He also invited Alvarez to claim her approved ID at his office, saying he already had the document in his possession.
The mayor’s statement came after Alvarez went viral for a video showing her emotionally withdrawing her documents from the CSWDO following what she described as three months of repeatedly processing her application.
Alvarez later met with Gatchalian on Sunday, October 25, to discuss the issue and explain her side.
In a subsequent social media post, Alvarez described the day as stressful and exhausting but expressed hope that humility, forgiveness, and understanding would help improve the existing system.
She also thanked the mayor for the opportunity to discuss the matter, ending her post with the message, “Love love love lang.”
