The United States’ Typhon Mid-Range Capability (MRC) missile system has been fired for the first time in the Philippines since its arrival in April 2024, according to Balikatan 2026 spokesperson Col. Dennis Hernandez.
Hernandez confirmed that the system was used early Tuesday morning to launch a Tomahawk land attack missile from Tacloban Airport.
The missile successfully struck its designated target in Laur, Nueva Ecija, approximately 630 kilometers away, at around midnight on May 5.
The development marks the first recorded live-fire deployment of the Typhon MRC system in the country, as part of ongoing activities under the Balikatan 2026 joint military exercises between the Philippines and the United States.
