An interfaith coalition is set to hold an anti-corruption rally Friday at Liwasang Bonifacio in Ermita on Friday, July 10, with organizers expecting participants from various religious, civic and sectoral groups.

According to a report by RH Tina Nolasco, as of 6 a.m., roads around the area were wet from earlier rain, though no downpour was occured. Crews had begun setting up a stage and LED screen at the park for the event, which will be led by the United People’s Initiative (UPI).

The rally is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., with participation expected from different Christian churches and denominations, as well as indigenous groups, civic organizations, labor groups, youth sectors, business groups, members of the academe and ordinary citizens.

UPI earlier said the gathering would be peaceful. At around 6 p.m., attendees are expected to join a collective prayer calling for unity and action toward what organizers described as a corruption-free nation.

As of early morning, no rallyists had gathered yet at the site, where final preparations were ongoing under generally fair weather conditions.

Authorities have also closed portions of Magallanes Drive, particularly the stretch between the Manila Central Post Office and Liwasang Bonifacio, to make way for the activity.
