The University of the Philippines (UP) Baguio suspended afternoon classes on Wednesday, March 11, after receiving an anonymous bomb threat, prompting an immediate evacuation from the campus.
According to a university advisory, the threat was received at approximately 11:41 a.m. and 11:46 a.m. through the University Student Council email and via an email sent to a faculty member.
University officials immediately disseminated the information, leading Chancellor Joel M. Addawe to order the evacuation of the campus to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) bomb disposal unit was called and arrived within 10 minutes of receiving the request for assistance.
Evacuated students, faculty, and personnel were brought to the Baguio Convention Center, where they are currently waiting for authorities to declare the area safe.
“Classes this afternoon are suspended… to ensure the safety of all constituents,” Addawe said in the advisory.
Authorities are continuing their inspection of the campus as of posting time, while the university community remains on standby for the official all-clear from the PNP.
