The tropical cyclone being monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has intensified into a super typhoon as of Sunday night, according to PAGASA.

As of 3:00 a.m. Monday, Super Typhoon Sinlaku was located approximately 2,580 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas. It is packing maximum sustained winds of 205 km/h and gusts of up to 250 km/h, moving west-northwestward at 15 km/h.

PAGASA earlier said that while the weather system may enter PAR late next week, it currently has a low chance of making landfall over the country. The agency, however, advised the public to continue monitoring updates.

For the forecast, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the highest heat index on Monday is expected in General Santos City, South Cotabato, which may reach up to 42°C.
