Typhoon Saudel entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Monday afternoon and was assigned the local name ‘Obet’, the state weather bureau said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Saudel entered the PAR at 1:20 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24.

PAGASA said it will issue its first Tropical Cyclone Bulletin for Obet at 5 p.m. Monday.

As of 8 a.m. Monday, PAGASA was also monitoring two other tropical cyclones outside the PAR.

Tropical Depression Gaenari, formerly known as Neneng, remained outside the PAR.

Meanwhile, another tropical depression that developed from low pressure area 08h intensified into a tropical storm and was assigned the international name Atsani. It was also being monitored outside the PAR.

PAGASA said the public should remain alert and closely monitor official advisories as the weather systems develop.
