A typhoon with international name 'Choi-Wan', formerly a low-pressure area designated as LPA 09h, is being monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Saturday.

As of 8 a.m., the typhoon was located 2,500 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, at 18.6 degrees north latitude and 145.3 degrees east longitude.

Choi-Wan had maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near its center and gustiness of up to 170 kph.

It was moving northeastward at 15 kph, PAGASA said.

As of 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, the typhoon remained outside the PAR.
