Two teens died from drowning in Brgy. Natappian, Solana, Cagayan, on Holy Thursday, March 28, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
In a Facebook post, PCG said the two victims, both aged 14 years old, were swimming in a river at Brgy. Natappian when they unintentionally ventured into deeper waters.
The two drowned as neither of them knew how to swim.
The bodies of the two victims were said to be recovered by Coast Guard District North Eastern Luzon, and were then handed to their respective families.
“The CGDNELZN continues to remind local residents to be vigilant and alert during leisure bathing amid the extreme summer heat,” the Coast Guard said.
The PCG is on a heightened alert until Sunday, March 31, to ensure the safe travel of passengers in ports and waterways nationwide this Holy Week.
The Coast Guard is also ensuring the safety of beachgoers in Hundred Islands in Pangasinan, seas in San Juan, La Union, and other provinces.
