Airport Police are set to file robbery-extortion charges against two men arrested for allegedly robbing a 76-year-old Japanese national on Thursday night, December 11.
The victim, identified as Yukihisa Yamada, had just arrived from Japan and was on his way to the Heritage Hotel in Pasay City when he was targeted by suspects posing as authorized transport operators. The suspects were identified as Edwin Gundaran, 42, of Maricaban, Pasay, and Leo Mendoza, 29.
According to NAIA Terminal 3 Police, the suspects, part of a group known for preying on elderly passengers, approached the victim and offered transport using their Toyota Innova. Instead of taking him directly to his destination, they allegedly drove him around the Pasay area for several hours before taking ₱6,000 in cash along with his other belongings.
Authorities apprehended the suspects shortly after the incident, and an investigation is ongoing to determine whether they are linked to other similar cases.
