Two executives of Sunwest Corporation accused in the controversial flood control project in Oriental Mindoro are still outside the country, with authorities tracking one in the United States and another in New Zealand, as reported by RH Edniel Parrosa.
The two were earlier ordered arrested by the Sandiganbayan in connection with the alleged corruption linked to the flood control project.
In the latest update, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the government continues to closely monitor the whereabouts of the two executives, both of whom had previously expressed willingness to surrender.
Speaking at Camp Crame, Remulla said authorities are close to arresting one of the accused who is currently in the United States. He added that the arrest of the other executive in New Zealand will be coordinated with that country’s authorities once the individual’s passport is cancelled, with Homeland Security expected to assist in the process.
While Remulla did not initially name the suspects, information indicates that those still at large are Sunwest Corporation president Aderma Alcazar, who is reportedly in New Zealand, and Sunwest treasurer Cesar Buenaventura, believed to be in New York.
Alcazar and Buenaventura are among those charged alongside former Congressman Zaldy Co and 13 others for malversation of public funds in relation to the flood control project.
