Two sisters, both minors, were killed after being trapped in a fire that broke out in Barangay Malanday, San Mateo, Rizal on Monday, May 4.
According to a report by Edniel Parrosa, DZRH News confirmed through a barangay official that the victims were aged 17 and 7.
Authorities said the fire may have originated from a nearby welding shop in the area, though this is still being investigated by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
The fire reportedly started around noon yesterday and spread rapidly. Firefighters were able to control the blaze by around 2:30 p.m. However, by 4:00 p.m., the victims were already reported dead after being missing for several hours before their remains were recovered from their home.
Ten families from four affected households were displaced by the fire and are currently taking temporary shelter at the Malanday Covered Court.
Local authorities in San Mateo have extended assistance to the affected families, including the distribution of grocery packs and other relief goods.
